It’s Just One of Those Days

You know those days when nothing terrible happens, but every single minor aspect of the day seems to go wrong? Yeah, that basically describes the gist of my day.
Last night, when things were still hunky dory, I relaxed with a 20 minute Balancing Flow #1 from Yoga Downloads before heading to the kitchen for a snack.
I took about a cup of Kashi 7 Grain Puffs and topped it with 2 tbsp of soy nuts and a few organic blueberries. This was then dumped into a Fage 0% Greek yogurt with a peach on the side.
Some scrumptious mixing action.
From the moment I woke up, I knew my day was doomed…
#1. Gloomy, cloudy, humid day. ICK!
#2. Internet is not working. AUGH!
However, I tried to stay positive as I started things out with a bowl of Quaker Cinnamon Oatmeal Squares topped with skim milk and a sliced organic banana.
After getting a few things done around the house, I went outside for a walk. Personally, I hate walking in humid, sticky weather, but I still prefer it over the treadmill.
#3. On my walk, I happened to see two dogs roaming around by the end of my road. I actually knew who they belonged to and also knew that they weren’t supposed to be out of their owner’s yard. One of the dogs is a pretty vicious black lab, and since we have a quite a few little kids living near us, I decided it was best to try to herd the dogs back home. I ended up walking an extra 2 miles (upping my total walk mileage to 4 miles) to bring them back to their owner, and although he was very gracious that I brought them home, I ended up regretting it… as I was walking down their driveway, I heard him SCREAMING at the dogs and yelling that he was going to “kick them” and such. I can’t say I blamed the dogs for running away! I don’t believe that dogs, or any pets for that matter, ever deserve to be treated that way. Sure, you have to learn to control your pets, but there are MUCH better ways of doing so.
Have you ever gotten upset by seeing someone treat their pet with such disrespect?
In an effort to brighten my mood, I opened up a bottle of Synergy – Cosmic Cranberry. YUM!
After my walk, I had to run into town to do a few errands and pick up a few grocery essentials.
By the time I got back home, it was time for lunch!
#4. While I was making lunch, I ended up finishing a container of spinach. Luckily, I had bought more while I was shopping, so I opened up the new one and found… A LIVE FLY!!! I’m sorry, but this SOOOOO disgusted me! The spinach container was sealed since packaging and this fly was still LIVING in there. GROSS!!! I snapped the topped back on and never looked back. That fly is still in there as far as I know!
Here’s the offending spinach container. Note the receipt on top, waiting to be refunded at the store.
Anyways, I still ended up making a DELICIOUS salad for lunch. In the bowl:
- organic spinach (from the FIRST container
) - organic kale
- organic red pepper
- organic sliced carrots
- steamed beets (cooled before adding in)
- organic sliced cucumber
- seasoned sautéed organic tofu
SO GOOD! On the side, I had a vanilla activia light, a slice of Natural Ovens Whole Grain and Flax bread, and a glass of light soymilk.
#5. Since I knew I was going to be needing more spinach (what girl doesn’t need her spinach?) by tomorrow, and was forced to drive the 10 miles BACK into town and buy another container of my favorite leafy green. However, this time I bought a different brand from a different store. I’m hoping this container is sans flies.
When I got back home, I did 40 minutes of pilates for some afternoon invigoration.
After pilates, I treated myself to a snack of a Weight Watchers Peanut Butter Delight Ice Cream cup, an organic whole wheat honey graham cracker, a plum, and a Black Cherry Hansen’s Diet Soda.
Dinner this evening was a delicious slow cooker stew made with potatoes, carrots, onions, lean deer venison, and beef stew seasoning in a water base. On the side, I had a whole grain seeded bun and a glass of skim milk.
My plans for the evening consist of reading, catching up on magazines, knitting, and hitting the sack! I’m definitely ready for Friday to get here!!! My oldest brother is going to be coming home late tomorrow night to spend his weekend off from work with us. He lives over 3 hours away and I haven’t seen him in about a month, so it will be so nice to catch up with him!
Hope everyone had a MUCH more pleasant day than me!
Heather

I’m sorry about the fly in your spinach! Eww!! And that is sad about the dogs! I know someone who is kind of mean to his dog – not abusive just mean sounding. Hope your day is better tomorrow!!

April-
Most of the Weight Watchers Ice Cream cups are actually pretty good and a decently healthy way to enjoy ice cream. The pb flavor isn’t my favorite, but it’s not bad. I’d recommend the chocolate chip or chocolate mint if you’re looking to try them out!

I’m sorry your day was so sucky! I hate seeing people treat animals badly…kids too. I saw a mom drinking beer on the street a few weeks ago whilst pushing a buggy and when she had finished, the toddler was crying and she threw the empty beer can AT the kid! Some seriously crazy people out there!
I am going through mounds of spinach right now- though I leave the flies and get my protein from other sources
hope today is better for you and that you have a fabulous weekend!

Hi sweetie…. ok, deep breaths!! Hopefully by the time you get up this morning you will be feeling better!! I did notice a common trend in your post though.. each thing that tried to ruin your day was not in your control. See notes
1- You cannot control the weather.
2- Sometimes technology fails. So not your fault.
3- We cannot control other peoples behaviours.
4- Flys tend to go where ever they want! Its their job haha.
5- You did not choose where to build the grocery store. Too bad it’s not next door to you. 10 miles is quite the way for spinach!
See? Try not to let things bother you that are not in your control to fix. Otherwise it can lead to a pretty unhappy lifestyle. I adore you!

Sorry you had a bad day.
Yes I hate people mistreating their pets. We don’t own them, they are part of the family, like your kids. That’s how I see pets anyway.

Sounds like we’re on the same type of day schedule – my day yesterday was the SAME way! Nothing too extremely significant happened, nothing really bad, but just like every little thing seems to be negative – it was just blah, and i felt pretty blah too! I hate those days! Hopefully today is much better (and hopefully the weather in WI is like it is here today! Its beautiful outside!)
OMG i cant stand seeing people hurt their dogs and yelling at them. As a matter of fact, unless its a farm dog, a dog that is bred specifically to herd cows or whatever, I cant stand when people leave their dogs outside. Seriously, whats the point of even having a pet? My dogs – are seriously, like family. Its pathetic. My mom calls our girl dog Pretty Girl #1, and Im Pretty Girl #2 bahaha (she’s kidding – i think!!) I truly believe that deep down, dogs do have feelings. Why else woudl it be, that when you bring an abused dog home from the shelter, they are afraid of humans? GAHHH I cant stand animal abuse. And I cry everytime I saw that commercial about the stranded and lost dogs after Hurricane Katrina. I honestly think I would rather be that crazy lady down the street with like 89 dogs than get married. Dogs love, unconditionally..how could you not like them?
Okay, okay. Enough about dogs
P.S. Going grocery shopping tomorrow – and HOPEFULLY it’ll be in the morning, so I can send it out tomorrow afternoon – but if not, it will be out monday morning! YAYYY!!
Love you girl!

One of my daughter’s loves in dog training. She says that the #1 reason pets get turned over to the animal shelters is because of behavioral issues. I feel that dog owners should be trained as well as the animals. I hate to see abuse of any kind but in is particularly abhorent to see animals mistreated.

Aw that dog story just broke my heart. I can’t stand when people treat their animals like crap. My neighbor yells at his dog all the time but the dog gets back and it’s quite funny watching him lose his temper (he’s never laid a hand on the dog, just yells)!
Comment by ksgoodeats — June 19, 2009 #
I agree that I absoutely hate when people are cruel to animals (of any kind). Maybe the neighbor was just very mad and was just saying things out of anger. Hopefully he sat the two dogs down and told them how disappointed he was in them and sent them to their rooms.
