When Sleep Just Isn’t Worth It

Anyone else SO glad it’s FRIDAY???  Woohoo!  The weekend is almost here!

Granted, I have no special plans besides getting massive amounts of studying accomplished and going to bed at an obscenely early time tonight, but Friday’s just a fun day in and of itself. Winking smile

I only got 3.5 hours of sleep last night, but that’s nothing new and it was well worth it.  I have so much I need to get done every day planned out until May 12th (my last day of finals), and I need some time to relax, unwind, and just be me in that mix too!

I woke up half-asleep at 5:30am and had a bowl of Nature’s Path Optimum Blueberry Cinnamon Cereal topped with unsweetened almond milk and an organic banana on the side.

I’m pretty sure I looked exhausted pre-coffee this morning, but luckily I woke up and felt up to my normal high-energy self by my 8:50 class this morning.  We had a work day in my Design lab, so I actually brought my Geology books to class since that’s at the top of my list for studying right now. I got quite a bit done and it felt good to make a dent in my work!

The weather is BEAUTIFUL day – 60’s and sunny – so I headed outside for a walk right after lunch.  MUCH needed!

Before my Intro to Buddhism discussion this afternoon, I grabbed a quick snack to hold me over:  organic medjool dates, organic carrots, raw peanuts, and unsweetened almond milk.

My to-do list for tonight is reading a chapter in Geology, doing a yoga podcast, and then getting some Zzzzzz’s

Do you ever sacrifice sleep for something you deem “more important?”

Time to Appreciate

April 28, 2011 at 5:56 am | Posted in Positivity | 14 Comments

In general, I’d like to consider myself an appreciative person… “thank you” comes as second nature to me, I don’t expect anyone to do anything for me that I can’t do myself, I take care of my health and well-being, and I know the value of a dollar. That said, there are so many places in my everyday life where I often look over how lucky I truly am.  Yes, my life is crazy intense right now, but I don’t want those so-called “little things” to go without recognition.

Therefore…

Five Things I Take for Granted

#1  My mom ALWAYS being available to me when I call.

IMG_5072

24/7 my mom will stop everything she’s doing to answer the phone when I call.  On top of that, she’s willing to listen to me drone on for hours on end about who knows what.  It’s been my saving grace in SO many stressful situations, and I realize I don’t tell her enough how much it means to me.

#2  My two absolutely incredible older brothers.

IMG_0381

I love these two to death.  I look up to them both, and admire and respect them so much!  We definitely don’t see each other or talk as much as we should, but I know when the going gets tough, they’ll be there for me in a heartbeat.

#3  My amazing friends who would cite a “family emergency” during a business meeting to come give me a hug and take me to coffee after my one (and only) car mishap

Side Swipe 2

Yes, this really did happen… I backed up against a pillar in my parking garage and a friend came and saved me. Winking smile

#4  My incredible apartment.

IMG_5057

As a Freshman in college, I know I’m incredibly lucky to even be living in an apartment, let alone a large, safe, well-kept, beautiful apartment with a full kitchen and balcony.  It’s PERFECT for me.

#5  My prestigious college education.

This one’s a little different… I definitely don’t take my education for granted in general, but I think I tend to forget how lucky I am to be going to a school like UW Madison.  We have some of the best professors, extensive fields of study, and truly top-notch learning environments out there.  I’ve changed my major 6 times – trust me, I’ve been around. Winking smile

Do I take things for granted in life?  Yes.  I’m a very grateful person, but I think we could all use a step back every now and then to take in all the AMAZING things life is handing us every single day.

What’s one thing you take for granted in your life these days?

It’s The Little Things

Thank you guys so much for your good luck wishes on my upcoming finals!  My schedule is still as crazy as ever, but I’m doing my best to stay on top of it and keep on track.  Luckily, my exams are all spread out pretty well, so starting next week everything should slowly start to settle down.  I have a lot to look forward to coming up this summer, so it’s keeping me motivated!

I had to forego a Whole Foods trip this week for lack of any extra time, so yesterday I ended up stopping at a nearby grocery store after one of my classes and picked up some goods:

IMG_5061

  • Organic spinach
  • Organic green beans
  • Organic bananas
  • Activia light
  • Organic bananas
  • Fage 0% Greek yogurt
  • Food for Life Brown Rice Tortillas
  • Smartwater

  • Synergy and Organic Raw Kombucha
  • Organic carrots
  • Organic mangos
  • Organic kiwis

It’s the little things that perk up my stressful studying days… like grocery shopping. Winking smile

This morning I started out my day with a bowl of Nature’s Path Optimum Blueberry Cinnamon cereal topped with unsweetened almond milk, and an organic banana on the side.

Of course, I trip to Starbucks was quickly in the works.  It’s slightly pathetic that the baristas at Starbucks rung me up and had my drink ready BEFORE I ordered today.  It certainly does make for fast service though, so I’m not complaining! Winking smile

I have a busy morning ahead, and study schedule to stay on top of for today.  This afternoon I have a presentation in my Geology class on the landfill project I mentioned a few days ago, but it’s the last Discussion for that class FOREVERwoohoo!!!

Have a fabulous Wednesday everyone!

Crunch Time

With only two weeks left of school (three weeks including finals), I am definitely starting to feel the pressure!  I have SO much to do that I literally will not be able to do it all.  Every single one of my 5 classes has a final plus at least one other assignment/paper/project/presentation due before the end of the semester.  It’s a lot to throw at me!

That said, I’m doing my best to stay stress-free and just handle each day as it comes. My strategy yesterday?  Walking 6 miles in the afternoon to Picnic Point, and then another 4 miles on Lakeshore Path before it was dark.  10 miles of walking in one day!  That did me WONDERS.  Plus, on the way back of my second walk I got to enjoy these views:

Pretty incredible, huh? Smile

Last night I also had a baked sweet potato – one of my favorites.  What do you do when your cookie sheet is dirty?  Use the pie pan of course! Winking smile

Baked sweet potato topped with MaraNatha organic raw almond butter, cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger.

With a glass of unsweetened almond milk.

I have a LOT to get done tonight,  so I’m headed straight to the booksHope everyone started out with a wonderful week!

Happy Bunny Day!

Happy Easter (or Bunny Day, or Chocolate Day, or whatever the you want to call it if you don’t celebrate Winking smile) everyone!!!

My Easter is pretty much a normal, busy Sunday for me!  One fabulous thing I managed to fit in today was the first 6-mile walk out to Picnic Point of the year.  I seriously needed that to clear my mind, and I ended up sitting out on the peninsula by the water for a while and it was SO relaxing.  There’s very little wind today, which isn’t typical for Madison, it’s in the mid-50*F’s, and the sun is shining. PERFECT!

A few weeks ago I had bought some Millet Bread at the grocery store (FYI, it took me forever to make that arrow in Paint Winking smile).

I finally brought it out a few night ago and tried it out.

Plain = FABULOUS!

IMG_5053

With Trader Joe’s Organic Crunchy Peanut Butter = BEYOND AMAZING!

IMG_5054

Seriously, this bread is so good!!!  It has almost a buttery taste, and it dense, filling, and spongy in the best ways possible.  Totally worth checking out yourself!

This morning I got a lot accomplished in the way of another 10-page essay I’m working on for my Intro to Cultures of Asia class.  The essays are instead of finals/mid-terms, so I really can’t complain!  And it spaces all my studying out by having this class done before finals.  I got about 1/3 of the essay done by lunchtime!

When I took my lunch break, I put together a wrap with a Food for Life Brown Rice Tortilla, Tofurky, organic spinach, and organic mixed herb salad.

IMG_5055

With sliced organic cucumbers, an activia light, and a glass of unsweetened almond milk.

IMG_5056

Right after lunch, I went out for my walk which was fabulous! Smile Now I’m headed out on my balcony to do some studying…

IMG_5057

Love it when I can do that OUTSIDE!
