April Goal: Affirmations

One of my goals this April is to do daily positive affirmations.  I started doing them last summer after a friend got me hooked and even more so after reading the book “The Success Principles” by Jack Canfield (AMAZING book btw).  As college became more and more time-consuming, however, I started to slack off.  I would read my written list every once in a while, pull up the file on my laptop and browse the first couple… but I had stopped putting the effort into making the affirmations work! 

The worst part is that recently I’ve noticed a change in my mental positivity and happiness.  School is getting stressful, and I’ve been cutting out some of the most positive influences in my life to make more time for school.  Social life, exploring the city, shopping at new places, trying to coffee shops, reading books other than textbooks, affirmations… they all seem have to dwindled

Therefore, I’m making it my April goal to get back on track with my positivity!  I am a VERY positive and happy person in general.  You ask me how I am, and I’ll usually respond with “Awesome!”  That’s just me!  And I love that about myself. 😀

      

Today’s post is going to focus on creating positive affirmations: 
   

Affirmations don’t necessarily have to be true at this moment, but they’re a reminder of the potential you have to succeed in absolutely any area of your life if you truly believe you can! 

Jeffrey Gitomer explained affirmations by saying, “If I gave you a magic wand, what would you want? to be, do and have? And then make some sentences in the positive present tense as though you already have that.”

One of the most important parts of affirmations is stating them in the PRESENT tense!
   

Start simple… pick your top 3 goals in life and write affirmations for them.  Keep them simple, but specific. 

For example:

I am a successful Pediatrician making $400,000 a year.
or
I am getting a 4.0 GPA in all my classes this semester. (This is one of mine!)
   

Start with 1, 3, or 5 affirmations, and then let the list grow!  Make it 5 PAGES long if you can!  Put the affirmations in a file on your laptop, post them on the fridge,

write them on a whiteboard,

make sticky notes to remind yourself and put them around the house.

But the BEST way to make affirmations work is to say them EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.  My goal is to get a new list together this weekend that I will be constantly adding to and altering, and repeat the list every morning.  I’ll also post the list on my fridge and write a couple on my whiteboard for reminders.
  

Here’s a few of mine:

  • I am getting a 4.0 GPA in all of my classes this semester.
  • I am beautiful.
  • I am  living the life of my dreams today.
  • I have complete control over my thoughts, actions, and life.
     

What motivates YOU?

Make some affirmations and USE them!!!  You’ll be amazed by the impact they have on your mental happiness and well-being. 🙂
